CT Severity Index

Hi everyone there are several ways to calculate scores for acute pancreatitis, In my point of view, the most popularity is Balthazar Score, which prove to be the useful method to determine the severity of acute pancreatitis and a patient’s prognosis To take correctly the total score we should get two elements involve in a formular such as below:

1.Grade of acute pancreatitis
Normal pancreas 0 (Point)
Pancreatic enlargement 1
Inflammation involving pancreas and
Peripancreatic fat 2
Single fluid collection or phlegmon 3
Two or more fluid collections or phlegmons 4

2.Degree of pancreatic necrosis:
No necrosis 0 (Point)
Necrosis of one third of pancreas 2
Necrosis of one half of the pancreas 4
Necrosis of more than one half of the pancreas 6

CTSI (CT Severity Index)= Grade of acute pancreatitis + Degree of pancreatic necrosis.
